I started at Thrive when I turned 74 after being frustrated with a knee replacement I had 3 years prior to that. I wasn’t pleased with the results of that surgery and was told the other knee needed to be replaced after having different rounds of injections that didn’t work. Well, I have enjoyed Thrive, now called Vital, immensely for almost 2 years now. Besides being in better shape, I have surprised myself with how both knees work and feel. I have worked myself up to do a 16” box step up with both knees. I started at 4”, with and without a weight in my hand and feel safe because I can be next to a vertical post if my balance is off. My balance at Vital has greatly improved due to the many exercise positions I have encountered. Many of us older people are a little unsteady at times, but this setting is not judgemental. Classes are limited to 10 in size, the coaches are very knowledgeable in answering your questions, correcting your form if need be and will tailor an exercise to your capability. I feel that is very important since, each of us know what our bodies can do when we start out but are amazed at what we can teach ourselves to do after a workout at Vital.
Lessons come through your phone, individualized, so you can check your progress, look back at past workouts, or jot down notes for an exercise so you know exactly how to arrange the equipment for next time.
I can easily walk to a gym in my home town, which I did in the past, but found myself working alone without guidance, using weights too heavy for my physical condition, or having incorrect form. I would rather drive the 25 minutes to Valatie, 3 times a week and enjoy an exercise program that suits my physical conditions so I don’t wind up hurting myself and doing it incorrectly.
A big shout out to the coaches I have had the pleasure of working with, Derrick and Jordan, for being so professional and tolerant of all my questions.

I initially decided to join THRIVE when I was training for a half marathon. Turns out it was the best decision I could've made! Not only did it supplement my marathon training, but it has helped me achieve a day to day fitness and wellness that is truly invaluable. I have gotten stronger and more confident in my abilities, both as a runner and in general. I have never felt holistically better, and am forever grateful for Derek's guidance and to be a part of the THRIVE community. If you are looking for an individualized strength training program in a fun and friendly small group setting, THRIVE is definitely the place for you!

At age 78 I was in the habit of biking and walking regularly. However, I felt I had lost strength over the years--particularly upper body strength. I decided to join Thrive Strength and Fitness where I got coaching and an individually designed strengthening program designed to my needs. I have been a member over a year, and happy to say I can lift 40# bags of water softener as needed, carry 2 20# boxes of kitty litter up a flight of stairs and get the tops off of jars and bottles whenever I please! I heartily recommend Thrive Strength and Wellness--professional, knowledgeable and committed to members.

I began attending Thrive Strength & Wellness after age, work and sports related injuries began setting me back in mobility and discomfort. I joined at the advice of my jujitsu coaches as my level of pain was increasing dramatically. Derek was absolutely instrumental in finding my physical imbalances and developing a plan to strengthen me and lessen my pain. Honestly, it was so simple and straightforward that I didn’t think it would actually work. I have a personalized plan and the ability to communicate changes, goals and successes with him at any time. He (as well as the other fitness coaches) pay attention to form and hold me accountable to my goals (I do need that!).
I love the upbeat and small setting of Thrive and the mobility I’ve gained and the reduction of pain is life changing. I really thought I had no recourse but happily, Derek proved otherwise.
Coaches are professional, knowledgeable, fun and motivating. I couldn’t recommend more for any age, goals or ability!!
